You are bidding on a pewter Christmas tree ornament that honors the nuclear-attack Virginia Class submarine, USS John Warner (SSN 785). The ornament was issued in 2014 (the year the ship was christened) by Newport News Shipbuilding, the ship's builder. The obverse side of the ornament features the ship's crest:
the U.S. Capitol with
a spread-winged eagle ready to attack in the foreground. U.S. Senator John Warner was the second longest serving U.S. Senator in the history of Virginia. He served in the U.S. Navy (Petty Officer) during WWII and as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He served as the Secretary of the Navy (1972-1974) during the Vietnam War.
Reverse side has information about the SSN 785 and features the gear and trident logo of Newport News Shipbuilding. USS John Warner holds the distinction of being named after a living individual.
Measures 2-1/4 inches in width and 2-3/8 inches in height.
