RARE Antique Gebr. Wichmann Compass WWI German Artillery Surveyors Berlin

Description

We are guessing as to this compasses application.  It appears to be quite old.  The top measures 3 inches in diameter.  Overall length is 6 inches.  The small brass knob at it's base rotates the upper portion with the slots & small wires in it.  The dove tailed case measures approx. 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 by 7 inches tall.  A unique collectable that functions properly.  We will refund if you are not satisfied with this item.

TOOL W/ NO ACCESSORIES - A WHOLLY RARE & EARLY
FORM
This staking tool was found in
Massachusetts recently and is
the earliest one we have every seen.  We have no
idea when such tools first came about, but this
one is clearly early - dating to about 1860-1870.
The tool has a base made out of cast lead for
added weight.  The main body is cast iron
with GOLD GILT paint and a TURNED BRASS
KNURLED ADJUSTMENT KNOB.  Some wear and chipping to GOLD GILT PAINT. General
light surface rusting on metal surfaces.
Base measures 2 1/2" DIAMETER and entire tool is 5 1/2"
TALL and also it is  3" front to back (back of knurled knob).
