was an American optical instrument and laboratory supply firm formed by H.S. Williams and N.H. Brown at 918 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
They operated from the late 1800’s to the very early 1900’s.
Their extensive catalogue included laboratory
and medical
instruments
, chemicals and
accessories
. They also offered
microscopes, binoculars, magic lanterns,
and many other types of scientific instruments.
It is not likely that the
y
made
any of the items in their catalogs but were primarily suppliers. Both the instrument and the card inside the box are identified by the maker. The instrument No. 106 also matches the card. The card has a very faint date stamp of AUG 12 190_. The tester looks like it was used very infrequently since the nickel-plated finish is excellent and the 4 glass shades are perfect. The tester is 4"L x 1-3/4" in dia. It comes in its original leather covered, felt-lined, wooden storage box. The nickel-plated closure latch works as it should. The box has wear from use (see pics). A RARE instrument that you never see for auction on eBay !!

A seldom seen large early electric bell. The bell itself is 10" in diameter!
The plating on the bell has come off in a few spots but polished, it would not be noticeable.
The coils are good and the bell is working. Tested on 6vdc and barley runs so most likely the operating voltage was 12-24v originally. It is not marked as to the operating voltage.
There are a few paint splatters on the base as typical with old items.
The connecting wires underneath are covered in rubber tubing and the tubing is brittle and cracking with age but does not affect the operation.
Unknown as to its actual designed use but most likely it was for a large space like a factory or fire station where it could be heard.
