Description
This thermometer is for the collector and not to be used for a daily thermometer.A special very old English thermometer that was made for the Army Navy Optical Department
c. 1850-1870. The tube was filled with alcohol that had been dyed red so you could see it but
they had problems with the red drying inside the tube. Because of this drying it does not
appear to be reading correctly but if you shake the thermometer down,
it will show the
correct temperature.
Then hang it on the wall and leave it alone. The thermometer is on a
l
ovely piece of Pine
with nice holder
and
a great bulb guard. The top of the tube ends in
a point. The scale reads 40-85 degrees in Fahrenheit and is imprinted at 45 degree
Room Cold, at 60 is Healthy Temp and at 75 Room Too Hot. At the top of the thermometer
it has printed (hard to see) Army & Navy Optical Dept., Westminster, London. This is a
Very special thermometer for the collector.
If you don't want to take the time to shake this thermometer down, please do not bid on it.
