Antique 1906 The Stonebridge Automatic Folding Lantern

A antique aluminum with isinglass folds totally flat lantern, last patent date of 1906 on it. Called The Stonebridge Automatic Folding Lantern. Open it is 10 x 3 3/4 x 4 1/4" approx size.

Beautifully made brass astrolabe-type device. The glass lens makes me think it was for calculating distances, etc. on a map. Engraved markings with early style numerals. A curious piece. Any additional information is welcomed. Unknown maker. Not signed.
Size: 6" diameter.
Condition:Overall excellent. Expected aging and wear. As-Is. Please use photos and description to determine condition.
