    Description

909 Postcard Hattie Tom, Chiricahue Apache - 1899 Photo by Frank Reinhart – NEW
Hattie Tom was a member of the Chiricahua Apache tribe, one of seven groups of Apaches who historically inhabited the regions of southern Arizona and New Mexico. Hattie was photographed wearing a buckskin dress decorated with tin cones, an item usually hand-made from utility tins.
This studio portrait of delegate Hattie Tom was photographed at the U.S. Indian Congress of the Trans-Mississippi and International Exposition in Omaha in 1898. Frank A. Rinehart's photographs of the Indian Congress participants are regarded as one of the best photographic documentations of American Indian leaders around the start of the 20th Century.
